I know that many of you are wondering, is it possible that Mac can read the text for you. Is there a software that can do that?

The answer may surprise you. Yes, Mac can read for you, and no additional application is required.

Mac with OS X has text to speech technology for a long time, and it keeps on improving it. In this article, we will discuss how we are going to activate text to speech feature.

Preparation

let’s explore this feature in System Preferences >> Dictation & Speech

The Idea

The idea of this program is simple: When you highlight the text you want, the text will be read to you.

How?

Select text you want to listen, and then click/right click on that text.

Then choose Speech >> Start Speaking

You can learn even more about this feature, via System Preferences >> Dictation & Speech. Choose tab Text to Speech. Here I want to point out one thing: Speak selected text when the key is pressed feature (1), with this feature after you select text you just press Option+esc to start the speech. You are able to Change key for the convenience.
