Some of us are bothered by the insistent gaze of the others. But what if our clothes would react in line with our feelings?

Behnaz Farah is an architect obsessed by cyborgs. In a recent interview with CNN, he quoted the British philosopher Andy Clark, who formulated the theory that people are already Cyborgs which she decided to interpret in her own way. Thus, her newest project is called “Caress of the Gaze” and involves a cape that react to the eyes of those around you. In other words, if you wear it, you’ll know for sure if someone is staring at you. Farah says she wanted to create an extension of the human body, to exploit the skin logic.

A less than three millimeters camera detects the eyes of those around you, and a computer algorithm determines a reaction in the exact same location where the viewer is staring if you are being fixated. The cape’s material will harden and will start to vibrate. Although it looks more like a hedgehog spines alert, Farah says she shaped the morphology based on the behaviour of snake and fish scales.

Farah wants to find a way to be able to adapt the technology so that it can also determine the viewer’s gender and age. However, she admits there’s quite a long way until this wish will come true, but she already made a huge step.

So far she is pleased with the feedback received and the unique cape was also named by few “a wearable Tinder” which also operates as a shield against elusive looks.
