On December 7, Facebook has pulled their Slingshot, Rooms and Riff apps from the App Store. Moreover, they also shut down the Creative Labs initiative, which was founded two years ago.
The Creative Labs is a startup within the Facebook, it built a series of experimental social apps designed to test new interfaces and interaction patterns.
“As of Monday, Slingshot, Rooms and Riff, an app that allowed users to create and share short videos based on a theme, have been pulled from app stores. The Menlo Park, California-based company has also removed the Web page for Creative Labs.”
The Slingshot is an app that was released in June 2014 to share photos via message with friends, similar to the well known app Snapchat. While, Rooms was released in October last year. It’s a ‘messageboard’ app allowing people to set up online chat rooms and it does not require people to use their real name. The last app is Riff, an app for making videos by allowing collaboration among friends, released in April 2015.
“Since their launches, we’ve incorporated elements of Slingshot, Riff and Rooms into the Facebook for iOS and Android apps.” said a Facebook Spokeswoman.
Previously, Facebook was testing the Collage and Live Video, which is speculated to replace these 3 apps. This step is in line with Dropbox who shuts down their Mailbox and Carousel to be integrated into the Dropbox app.
