How to use social media the right way

Keep personal things personal

You are probably aware of this already, but let’s point out again, simply as a reminder. You have your personal information, your things and stories, and the truth is you should keep them as they are – personal. Remember, you can post something and decide to remove it just a minute later, but for that single minute some information you shared can fall into wrong hands and the damage is done.

Do not share the street you live in, do not share the photos of your ID, drivers license, or passport. Do not share information about the school your kids go to, not even the photos that clearly show the position of the school or your home. You may think that everyone is as good as you and that everyone has good intentions, but there are many people out there who may use the information you shared for the purposes you can’t even imagine. If you wouldn’t harm someone else, don’t think others are the same. It is better to be cautious and careful.

Think about your reputation

Don’t share things that may harm your reputation. Going out with friends, goofing around and taking pictures is fun, but sharing the photos that may show more than you should show is something to avoid. If someone shared a photo of you and tagged you, you may untag yourself, or if that isn’t enough, ask the person the remove the photo. No matter if you are a teenager, or an adult, you should think about your reputation and the consequences when sharing too much.

Avoid arguing and do not insult others

There is too much drama in the world already. Why using social media to argue with people? Sharing your opinion is your right, and sure, you can do that. And you can do it in a manner that does not call others to rant and argue. Share what you think, because your opinion is important as anyone else’s. And yes, you can do it politely and nicely. But for the love of God, avoid being too harsh when sharing your opinion. And do not insult other people. What’s the point? You will feel better? No, you won’t. Remember, your actions and words can have an impact on others. And hurting other people is something that we should all avoid at all costs. Don’t be aggressive.

Privacy settings

Every social media account can be adjusted and privacy settings can be changed. For instance, you can adjust the settings so that all of your profiles are private. The control is given you to, so you need to give your best to make use of it. Limit the visibility of your post. Share the things you want to share with friends only. Tweaking the privacy settings will take just a few moments of your time, so make sure to do all the things necessary.

Stay in touch

Social networks have many great sides. One of them is the ability to stay in touch with the people you care about, no matter where they live. You can find and connect all over again with your childhood friends, or a relative you haven’t seen in ages. Social networks give us the opportunity to connect with people and to stay connected, and if you ask me – that’s one of the greatest things. Plus, you can meet new people who share the same interested or hobbies. There are many wonderful people out there.

Share good stuff

You can be one of those people the world needs the most – be supportive, be encouraging, inspire others and share the good stuff. You lost a few pounds, got a new job, or you have successfully completed a project? Share that! You never know who you can inspire. People often think that only celebrities can encourage or inspire others. You can do the same. Share the wins, no matter how little they might be.

Wrapping it up

We will say this once again – social networks are great, but only when you know how to use them. Be careful when it comes to the things you share with others. Leave the anger and other things that may hurt others. Look at the bright side of life and share the good. Connect with the people you care about, and meet new ones. Have fun!
