After a successful beta run of Arrow Launcher, Microsoft has finally unveiled the application, making it available for free for all Android users through the Google Play Store. The Play store for Android users is already brimming with applications that can customize the smartphones in various ways; however, Microsoft has attempted to bring a new perspective to the smartphone interface through the Arrow Launcher.

The application makes it easier for users to access their frequently used apps, documents and photos in its recent section. Arrow organizes applications depending on how frequently they are used to keep the ones that are launched most right at the top. Some of its features seem to be borrowed from iOS9 although it does not replicate the app completely.

The launch of Arrow is insightful of Microsoft’s approach to cross-platform development. Microsoft has chosen not to include too many Microsoft services in the application which keeps it clutter free for those who may not find much use for other Microsoft services.

While it may be welcomed by many smartphone users, there is a possibility that Android fans may not take to the launcher very easily. The fact that the main screen cannot be organized or rearranged by the users may not be acceptable to some users; however, the suggested apps that appear on the main screen can be hidden. Another thing to keep in mind is that the home screen does not support widgets, although widgets can be added to a separate widget screen.

Microsoft’s Arrow Launcher needs some getting used to before users start liking it, but a change in the layout may be a refreshing change for many Android users.
