Ahead of Christmas,  the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland is going to publish the Christmas calendar, which has more than 30 emojis on it. These emojis illustrate Finnish emotions and the important things associated with Finland and were designed by Bruno Leo Ribeiro, an Art Director. The Christmas calendar itself will be launched and can start to be downloaded from the app store for free on December 1, 2015. It will be available in 13 different languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, German, French, and Portuguese. Finland is the first country in the world to publish its own set of country themed emojis.

“The emojis used especially by young people have revolutionised communications in the same way as the invention of the text message. Emojis are used to communicate visually rather than verbally, and that suits Finns,” says Petra Theman, Director for Public Diplomacy.

There are  first three emojis revealed: The Sauna, The Unbreakable, and The Headbanger. The First one is The Sauna, a picture of two naked sweaty people. It doesn’t need to introduce, sauna is as Finnish as it gets, said Bruno. The unbreakable, a basic drawing of Nokia 3310. Nokia is a Finnish multinational communication and information technology company , which was founded on May 12, 1865; 150 years ago, in Tempere, Grand Duchy of Finland.

The legendary Nokia 3310 is one of the highest selling mobile phones of all times. The phone was designed in Finland and it is known for its toughness.

The last one is The Headbanger. It is dark in Finland and so is the music. There’s a small headbanger living inside of each Finn.

The emoji calendar can be followed at xmas.finland.fi and the social media channels of ThisisFINLAND.
