Two scientists want to prove that teleportation, as seen in Star Trek movie, is possible in reality. Therefore, a team of experts has designed a scheme which intends to create the so-called state of “Schrödinger’s cat”.
Schrödinger’s cat is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. It illustrates what he saw as the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics applied to everyday objects. The scenario presents a cat that may be simultaneously both alive and dead, a state known as a quantum superposition, as a result of being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur. The thought experiment is also often featured in theoretical discussions of the interpretations of quantum mechanics. Schrödinger coined the term Verschränkung (entanglement) in the course of developing the thought experiment. (source: Wikipedia)
The experiment was proposed by Professor Tongcang Li from Purdue University, USA and Dr. Zhang qi-Yin from Tsinghua, China. They suggest using electromechanical oscillators and superconducting circuits to teleport the quantum state of a microorganism.
At the same time, they have devised a scheme in which they create Schrödinger’s cat state. For those who don’t know, this refers to the fact that a microorganism is able to be in two different places at the same time. The experiment was proposed in 1935 by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger. Then, he said he can prepare a cat to be simultaneously alive and dead.
At this stage, using microwave superconducting circuits will achieve the teleportation. More specifically, it consists in using a strong magnetic field, which has the ability to change the internal state of a microorganism, transferring it to another. Since microorganisms states contain information, scientists hope they will also be able to teleport the bacteria’s memory.
“We propose a straightforward method to put a microorganism in two places at the same time, and provide a scheme to teleport the quantum state of a microorganism. Our work also provides insights for future studies about the effects of biochemical reactions in the wave function collapses of quantum superposition states of an organism”, claimed the two physicists.
