Recently, the Financial Times reported that the British luxury phone brand, named Vertu reportedly has been sold by its Swedish owner, EQT. The new owner is a Hongkong firm Godin Holdings.

Vertu is the high-en luxury phone, which was started by Nokia in 1998 to target the exclusive market. In October 2012, Nokia sold Vertu to private Equity Group, EQT for around $200 million according to the rumor. Its models can cost starting from $10,000 to $300,000 and all of them are handmade in factories in Church Crookham, Hampshire, England. Only 450,000 pieces were sold between 2002 to 2015, which is not surprising considering the price range.

According to Engadget, Vertu’s new owner, Godin Holdings is a newly established company.

You see, after some digging around in the Hong Kong Companies Registry, we found out that this Godin Holdings is actually just a four-month-old shell company of Godin Cyberspace Security Technology (translated name), which claims to be working on its very own secure smartphone OS dubbed “GOS.”

As a new owner, Godin has a big plan for Vertu, foremost with its operating system. In 1998 under Nokia, Vertu ran the Nokia Symbian OS. As it was announced in June on Weibo by his new owner, Vertu may use its own OS called GOS, which is described as particularly secure, with data encryption and the ability to prevent phones from being wiretapped.

As Godin is focusing on Vertu OS with its new interesting features inside, especially in terms of security, how the Vertu future will be? And what about its luxurious design? Will it still be made in England?
