Since VR is about to become a worldwide phenomenon, it would be great to make the most out of it, and Youtube does not sit idly… well, it does when it comes to copyright, abuses or pushing the content creators in the clutches of the mafia networks, but not when it comes to VR.

According to BuzzFeed, Youtube will receive support for 360-degrees live streaming. The service is already supporting videos where you can rotate the view, but with these additional transmissions, it could reach an even bigger audience.

For example, cameras can be installed during sporting events or concerts, and Youtube will live broadcast, giving those who are not there, the impression that they are part of the public. See the video below for an example:

And of course, since most concerts and sporting events require licensing fees, you should not expect many ordinary people to make such streams. The fact does they will need a sophisticated camera or about 12 phones glued together to make such stream does not help either.

YouTube officials have refused comment when this feature will be available, but since this Spring the VR era begins… and basically we already have Google Cardboard, there shouldn’t be long from now.
