While many are wondering will ZTE and Huawei, two Chinese rival companies conquer the US market, their rivalry is getting stronger. ZTE is planning to sue Huawei, over two camera patents Huawei used for their new P8 and X2 devices.

Just a couple a days ago, Huawei launched new flagship smartphone P8, and phablet, P8 Max. Among many great options and overall quality of their P8, the company is especially proud of the camera, and its excellent features.

ZTE announced on Weibo, a Chinese social network, the company will sue its rival Huawei over two camera patents, which both belong to ZTE. They also published two letters which their lawyers sent to Huawei. Two patents are “Imaging and Mobile terminal tech”, and “Slow Shutter and Capture technology”. ZTE is confident that Honor X2 infringing their patents, but they are still not sure if that is the case with Huawei P8 as well.

“Nubia phone camera technology has been committed to research and development, and has started to obtain the relevant patents, we strive to promote the development of innovative technology to the mobile phone industry. Faced with a large range of Huawei Technologies Co., plagiarism, we felt it was time to stand up and use the law to maintain order in the industry healthy competition,” ZTE explains.

Shortly after ZTE announced they will sue their rival, Huawei responded. The company said both camera patents are actually standard techniques which are used in the photography. Also, they said the technology, which was used on both smartphones, Huawei P8 and Honor X2 belongs to the company. Huawei added “consistently advocated the protection of intellectual property.”

We’ll see if disagreement can be resolved without reaching the court. When it comes to P8 which was launched few days ago, the reviews are excellent, especially when it comes to camera, display and design.
